Three ways to improve your legal savviness

Workplace meeting

Levelling up professionally doesn’t always come by virtue of showing up to work every day. In a profession that tends to attract high achievers, here are three things you can do to keep yourself motivated, focused and on top of your game.

Seek CPD opportunities

The legal and conveyancing profession has undergone some dramatic changes within the last few years, with new and innovative ways of working constantly being developed.

Whilst continued professional development (CPD) is a requirement, it also presents an opportunity for you to seek the most valuable sources of content which improve your day-to-day practice. The best way for practitioners to uncover new ways of working is to dedicate time each week to monitoring new developments and upskilling yourself and your team.

InfoTrack offers a range of live and on-demand webinars, designed to upskill, educate and inspire practitioners. From topics such as “Shifting from self-criticism to self-compassion”, to “How to protect your client’s next property purchase with Priority Notices and Caveats”, we explore both soft and technical skills to hone your knowledge and improve your practice.

Network

As with any career or profession, building a network of reliable referrers and mentors is critical to personal and professional development. Building a healthy network will not only help you in your current position, but future moves, too. Whether you are the mentor or mentee, building relationships based on trust and mutual benefit is essential.

Not sure where to start? Seek opportunities by connecting with your local or state Law Societies and industry bodies. Get involved in events and mingle with your fellow practitioners.

Become tech-positive

Technology solutions have been developed as enablers, which will help you and your team to work more efficiently and enjoy your day-to-day work. There is a slew of solutions that can save you time, and when you are an early adopter of smart technology, the early grind is worth the time saved at later stages.

Some examples are:

  • Secure Document exchange platforms
  • Electronic Signature platforms
  • Practice Management Software integrations that automate data population

While it may seem like more work initially, the benefits that come from taking small actions on these simple but effective methods will pay back in dividends. Take control of your career and stay ahead of the pack.
